v What is the best breed of cat to buy
Bengal's have a leopard look are
they friendly?
I have heard that bengals are smart,
are they?
Yes they are very friendly. They have been breeding these cats for docility since 1963 and are now one of the most affectionate cats you can find, but they seem to frighten easily. They don't get along with dogs very well.
No, spotted
and marbled are the patterns allowed in the
You bet!!!
These cats are the easiest to train, and they seem to figure out small
problems, like where are the kitten treats.
Not great with little ones, and they can frighten easily. They are fine with other cats. Our Bengals don't mind our dogs, but our dogs don't mind them either. My personal experience is different from all the textbooks; I have had young children around them with no problem. These cats do not like being held tightly, you must be gentle.
Do Manx get along with other pets?
Does having no tail cause a
health problem?
Originally
the Manx developed on the
This gets complicated. Manx have a Homozygous gene that causes a shortened spine (i.e. tail) the tail comes in 4 types rumpy, rumpy riser, stumpy, and long. This Homozygous gene makes the Manx kitten mortality rate high.
Manx are rated as 1 of the most compatible cat with children and other pets, they really seem to like dogs.( Probably the best all around pedigreed cat there is for a home)
The Manx vocal level is way down on the scale. They don't meow a lot, but they do purr allot. Most of the time they get vocal to tell you something, like food, water, or a dirty litter box.
No, once the kittens get past 6 wks their health care needs are minimal, getting them past the first 6 wks is what makes them so hard to raise.
These cats look like little mountain
loins, are they friendly?
Do Abyssinians get along with other
pets?
I want a cat that is playful, how
are Abyssinians?
Are there any health concerns with
this breed?
These cats look like little mountain loins, are they
friendly?
Abby's are rated as one of the most docile of all domestic cats. They like petting and head scratching, but not holding. Abby's don't like feeling trapped.
That is a hard one to answer, our Abby’s do ok with other cats, but not our dogs. These cats are better off with adults, children move to quick for them, and they get frightened.
Not really,
they don't "talk" often or even purr allot. Abby’s normal way to get attention is
physical; they will rub on you or put their head in your hand for scratching,
and probably grab you if you miss feeding time. I have a male that hisses a
lot. He is telling me to come pet him
right now; these cats are a lot of fun!!
You bet they are! Abby's are rated as one of the most playful of all domestic cats, and the most active. They run, jump, chase, and to them all things are toys, and they are known as the clowns of the cat world.
Yes. Abyssinians are prone to gingivitis, always ask your vet to brush their teeth, or you can do it.
What is the best food for cats
Do cats need their teeth brushed
Breed
choice is a very personal choice. I have had plane old barn cats that
have been great pets, but by choosing a particular breed of purebred cat you
can look for the basic traits that suit your home and lifestyle. Things like
activity level, playfulness, attention needs, affection
toward owner, vocal ness, intelligence and compatibility with children or pets
most pedigreed cats will have a profile.
Dry cat
foods are normally the best choice; choose a food that lists meat as its first
ingredient (beef, chicken, lamb) high protean, and
high fat. Canned cat food is not better for your cat! You are paying for water,
and wet foods will not keep your cats teeth clean. We only feed to nursing
mothers to help with fluid intake, not as a replacement for dry food.
Again this
is a personal choice. I find that the
cat box chore the worst part of owning a cat. A clumping easy sifting litter
makes this a minor job. The most common mistake is not using enough litter in
the pan to start with. A litter box that
starts with a full pan of a good scoop able product is easy to take care of. Some of the litters today are flushable, so
I recommend keeping your cat box in the bathroom where you can take care of
this chore in less then a minute every day.
Some breeds
need dental care quarterly, some never need it,
breeding, food type, and a yearly visit to your vet will tell the story
Some cats
should never go out on the ground, others will be no problem, for example a longhaired cat like a Persian can bring in a
lot of stuff. Some are so dependent on
people if they get lost they will not survive. Just use good judgment.
I would not
de-claw if possible. If furniture scratching is the problem, get a good solid
scratching post and put catnip on it to encourage your cat to use it. If the
problem is scratching your child you may need to have it done, a child is more
important then then a few days discomfort for the cat. If must be
de-clawed, then only the front please.
